Summer programs open to area students

The summer has just begun, and so have the many learning opportunities available to students in grades 7-9 at Mount Carmel Area and Shamokin Area schools.

“Camps” were held at the Northumberland County Career and Technology Center to students who are interested in learning more about the offerings at the school. From auto mechanics to health occupations, participants saw first-hand what the courses are like as they begin to learn about career choices.

“This was a great way for students to explore their interest in an occupation,” said Sue Hoffman, CSIU afterschool program manager. “The camps exposed them to the many offerings at the career and technology school so they are better informed to make decisions about their future course selections.”

The camps were held free of charge, and transportation and lunch were provided.

A 21st Century Community Learning Center grant was awarded to the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU) to conduct academic enrichment programs in partnership with Mount Carmel Area and Shamokin Area school districts.
