Teen mother holding baby
  • ELECT is a free, voluntary program that supports pregnant and parenting teenage mothers and fathers – both in and out of the classroom.

After you sign up for the program, you are paired with a student support specialist who meets with you weekly or bi-weekly. Your specialist works one-on-one with you to provide assistance that addresses your unique needs.

In addition to helping you with school work, your specialist will provide you with information that can help you be a better parent. You will learn about health care, nutrition, child development, career options, budgeting and family planning – all of which are critical in helping grow you and your child’s future.

You will also be connected to resources in your community that provide assistance for the needs you might have at any time (financial, transportation and more). And if you attend group meetings, you will learn from other teens’ shared experiences and success stories.

You can join ELECT at any time. To be eligible, you must be a pregnant or parenting teen under the age of 21 and enrolled in school or a GED® or HiSET® program (or want to return to school). You must also live in either Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder or Union county.

    Your Future Begins Now

Whether you are a student or want to return to school, ELECT staff can help you prepare for your future.

As a participant, you can receive academic support from tutors and mentors. Your specialist will explore options with you to pursue a high school diploma, GED® or a college or vocational degree, and will help you get information on careers to determine which path is right for you.
