Requirements:

• Application - All applicants must apply online through the CSIU's Guest Teacher / Education Major Application Link 
  
  
• Transcript – Upload an unofficial bachelor’s degree transcript to your application.
  Please note: An official, sealed transcript from your college/university must be provided on or before the first day of training. E-transcripts will be accepted if sent directly from the college/university to jwitmer@csiu.org.
  
  
• Clearances – Pennsylvania School Law requires that all applicants for employment in public and private schools undergo background checks if they will have direct contact with students. In addition, employment history reviews must be completed for all applicants seeking employment. Following receipt of the application and transcripts and prior to the training sessions, applicants will be contacted via email to complete the remaining paperwork.

Foreign-Educated Applicants

A person educated in a foreign country may be eligible for substitute teaching provided the applicant meets the requirements set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).

Each foreign-educated applicant will be required to have their credentials evaluated by a professional credential evaluation agency. Additional information can be found on the Foreign-Educated Teacher Certification Applicants page of the PDE website.

Training Session:

All guest teachers are required to attend one (virtual) or two (in-person) days of training. Trainers and speakers include CSIU education and special education professionals.

Inclement Weather Procedures:

In the event of bad weather on an in-person training day, please follow the procedures outlined below before leaving home. 

1. Call the CSIU at (570) 523-1155 and listen to the recording.
   *If there is a delay or closing, the recording will prompt you to push #9 on your phone keypad.
2. The recording will include any changes to the Guest Teacher schedule.

Please note: Schedule changes will be added to the recording after 6:30 a.m. To ensure you have the most current information, it is recommended you call the CSIU periodically and immediately before departure from your home.
