A key element of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit’s mission is to strive for innovation and excellence. The Computer Services (CS) department at the CSIU does that by providing cost-effective services and solutions to school districts and businesses across the Commonwealth.
More than 50 staff members make up the department, a division of the Technology Group at the CSIU. The department creates and develops administrative software solutions that encompass financial, web-based student information and tax software for use in local education agencies and business entities in Pennsylvania.
The financial software, Financial Information System (FIS), was developed and has been updated and maintained by the CSIU for more than 40 years. FIS is used for fund accounting, payroll, personnel, bidding, consumable inventory and asset inventory functions. More than 300 schools throughout Pennsylvania currently use the FIS. The program is also used for payroll functions here at the CSIU.
The web-based Student Information System (SIS) is utilized in more than 100 schools throughout Pennsylvania and incorporates a multitude of applications. Client Solutions Manager, Todd Roney explains “the SIS is used to complete various school functions such as grading, transportation scheduling, attendance, achievement and discipline, student and parent portals and more.”
Todd has been developing software for many years on various platforms. “My responsibilities include sales and implementation management for the software we develop,” said Roney. Todd acquires new clients and together with the CS Team assists existing clients with any issues that may arise.
A third product developed at the CSIU is the tax software. Schools or businesses use this software for tax collecting, tax billing and family census collection and reporting.
When promoting the products to school districts or businesses, Roney has found that clients value not only the product features, but the ongoing high quality support and technical assistance provided by the CS staff. They showcase the product so that potential clients can see for themselves why they should buy the software. Roney said, “The CS staff exhibits unparallelled expertise in the products we develop.”
