2019 Work Foundations+ Career Fair
-
The second annual Work Foundations+ career fair was, again, a success. More than 25 area businesses and service agencies shared job opportunities and other information with students from local districts. Participating businesses and service agencies included Furmano's, Knoebels, Career Link, CSIU's WATCH Project, PA State Police, Geisinger, Weis Markets and more.
Tyler Defacis, a senior Work Foundations+ student, wants to work in the technology field after high school. Dylan is already preparing by taking a college course to improve his writing skills. He spoke with three employers while at the career fair including Sunbury Motors, BB&T and PA CareerLink and feels he made some good connections.
A representative from Furmano's, Betsy Kuhns, was impressed and said all the students she spoke with did very well introducing themselves and expressing what they were looking for when entering the workforce. "This event helps both students and businesses in learning more about each other to see if they would be a good fit." said Betsy.
Work Foundations+ is a secondary special education program focused on providing comprehensive academic instruction and real-life career exploration, experiences, and training to students with disabilities to best prepare them for successful post-secondary training and education, employment, and independent living. The teens learn to transition into adulthood and are taught about independent living. They undergo education to refine academic standards like math and reading and spend up to 150 hours throughout the school year with Valley employers in on-site career training.
