Work Foundations+

Work Foundations+ is a secondary special education program focused on providing comprehensive academic instruction and real-life career exploration, experiences, and training to students with disabilities to best prepare them for successful post-secondary training and education, employment, and independent living. Students learn the necessary skills to be competitively employed upon graduation and apply these skills in authentic, community-based settings. As you will see in the video, Work Foundations+ is more than a school, it is a family!

Attitude of Gratitude

Students at Work Foundations+ participated in the 4th Annual Attitude of Gratitude. Each year around Thanksgiving, students, under the instruction and inspiration of Geoff Craven and Kj Reimensnyder, compose their own original music with a focus on gratitude and perform for a live audience. This program is a wonderful addition to our academic curriculum, providing essential exposure to the arts and touching the hearts and lives of our students, staff, and families.

Attitude of Gratitude increases communication skills, builds confidence, develops empathy and creative thinking, and creates community among our students. The CSIU is grateful to Geoff and Kj and to our Board for their support of this powerful program.

New SIS Product

The Computer Services division has received its first client for the new SIS partnership (Synergy) approved this summer. Staff continue to provide demos to interested schools and are coordinating the conversion and training for the new client.

With Synergy, SIS and all core student data management solutions (assessment, RTI/MTSS, special education, and more) talk to each other by design, sharing data in real time from a single database for a seamless user experience. A full suite of role-based mobile apps is included to free up nearly every user type from desks, classrooms, and offices. Synergy serves 5 million students in 22 states, including more than 27,000 students in Pennsylvania.

Pandemic Update

This month, superintendents heard from Geisinger’s Chair of Pediatrics and leaders from Geisinger Medical Center and Evangelical Community Hospitals that the pandemic is far from over in our region and state. They emphasized the increase in positivity that is occurring now is overwhelming hospitals and can be expected through the winter months. They stressed ways to mitigate COVID-19 remain:

Vaccinations and Boosters
Masking
Hygiene
Distancing

With this information, and in observance of the Masking Order which still legally remains in effect in education, the CSIU will continue to mask indoors at least through Jan. 16.

The CSIU and individual school boards may need to update Health and Safety Plans to reflect any changes after the Masking Order is lifted on January 17, 2022.
