2022 National SEL Conference

Each year at this time, regional districts are each offered two free admissions to the National Social Emotional Learning Conference. The conference was held in Baltimore prior to the pandemic,  but is now presented in a virtual format. It is the premiere SEL Conference in the nation and is run by the Center for Schools and Communities’ Center for the Promotion of Social Emotional Learning. Many CSIU employees will attend and help facilitate sessions.

Conference attendees will:

  • Explore leveraging the latest social and emotional learning research and practice.
  • Build awareness and take action, creating a positive school climate that supports student success.
  • Join mindfulness workshops, peer networking and hear from two amazing keynote speakers.

Hawk Mountain Mini-Leadership Image

Hawk Mountain Mini-Leadership Retreat

Nine district leaders from the CSIU region joined colleagues from IU 29 (Schuylkill County) at Hawk Mountain for a mini-leadership conference on Friday, May 13. This collaborative learning opportunity led by Mason Wooldridge focused on compassion and emotional wellness through the lens of district leaders and the experiences endured as a result of the pandemic. Participants unpacked the current challenges facing public education while identifying “the perception,” “the why,” and “the success” of our schools and intermediate units.  Following the morning session, a representative from Hawk Mountain provided a history and demonstration of the work carried out at the sanctuary including data collection, strategic planning and conservation efforts.

This mini-leadership conference sponsored by the CSIU, is the culmination of a partnership with IU 29 that began in the fall of 2021, and a springboard to upcoming learning opportunities the CSIU will be hosting during the summer and fall of 2022.
