Thirty-eight students graduated from the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center (CSLPNCC) in a spirited celebration of hard work, perseverance and love of nursing on August 15, 2024, in the Milton Area High School auditorium.    School Board Development Training  


We are pleased to invite you to a special School Board Development event on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU). This complimentary event is open to all of the board members serving on one of the CSIU region’s 17 school district boards and their superintendents. The evening offers an opportunity to join fellow regional school board directors for conversation and expert legal insights on board governance.

   Regional In-Service: October 14, 2024  

The 2024 Regional In-Service Day will be held on October. 14, 2024. All CSIU districts’ staff are invited and offered complimentary registration.

Kids Deserve It: Empowering Educators, Inspiring Innovators, will be held at Susquehanna University. Featuring two dynamic keynote speakers, this event will challenge and inspire teachers and administrators across the IU region. Adam Welcome's keynote, Kids Deserve It, will offer actionable strategies to drive real change. Matt Mervis will present Where We Are and What’s Next for AI in Education, exploring the transformative impact of AI in classrooms today. In addition, over 20 breakout sessions will be led by IU staff, district representatives, and experts in the field, offering a range of innovative practices to enhance education.

Additional opportunities are available throughout the region, including the District 8 PMEA Professional Development Day at the CSIU main building, Family & Consumer Science at  Southern Columbia Area School District, and Susquehanna Business Education at Susquehanna University.    Center for Schools and Communities’ Staff and Programs Recognized   

ABC27 and the Center for Safe Schools Director Joey Melvin authored a press release to provide safety tips for parents. Following its release, ABC27 requested an interview with Melvin to discuss safety tips for parents. The interview highlighted safety concerns related to communication, bullying, online threats, and emergency procedures. USDA Summer EBT Press Conference:
A press conference was held in Harrisburg, PA, to launch the USDA’s SUN Bucks (Summer-EBT) child benefit program statewide and was attended by two Center for Schools and Communities Summer-EBT team members: Paige Poticher and David Marshall. Dr. Khalid Mumin, Secretary of Education, and Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, Secretary of Human Services, along with other state and federal officials, provided speeches to emphasize the program’s significance in addressing children's educational and nutritional needs during the summer months. The SUN Bucks program offers direct assistance to low-income children who may not have access to the free and reduced meals they get during the school year.

  PA Governor's School Attendee  

Mariah Drexler, a Lewisburg Area High School student, participated in the prestigious Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS) at Carnegie Mellon University. She is the daughter of Michael and Kimberley Drexler.

The PGSS is a rigorous, five-week program that provides talented Pennsylvania rising high school seniors with enrichment experiences in the sciences and mathematics and encourages them to pursue careers in science and technology. Students accepted into the Governor’s School for the Sciences are among the top achievers at their schools, and each year, the CSIU is honored to co-sponsor a student selected into the program from the IU region.

While attending the Governor’s School, all students live on campus in Carnegie Mellon University dormitories and take specially designed lecture courses in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics. In addition, students participate in laboratory courses and engage in team research projects. They can also take elective courses, participate in field trips, attend special lectures and seminars, and interact with university faculty. Mariah had the opportunity to complete a research project in astronomy, where her team could photograph the Veil Nebula using the Keeler Telescope in Pitt’s Allegheny Observatory and study the supernova remnant.
