He also went out of his way to track down the person in the crowded auditorium to ask if they were okay after experiencing difficulty with the shuttle.
That is far more than what was required of him as a driver, and his assistance and follow-up concern were deeply appreciated. When they crossed paths again a few days later at the Main IU building, Kurt once again inquired about their well-being. That’s a testament to the work Eric put in proactively to ensure a seamless transition of network services. He created a pathway to keep downtime to a minimum and committed after-hours work to make sure the plan was carried out successfully.
Eric also demonstrated Service to Others when he responded immediately after hours to a potential security issue.
“I received an email from an attorney I have been dealing with on a confidential matter. Her email address was accurate, and the attached document was marked confidential, so it looked legitimate. In an abundance of caution, I contacted her to make sure. She (or who I thought was her) confirmed its authenticity. When I opened it up, it took me to a W-2 on the CSIU website. I then got locked out. I put in a helpdesk ticket but was so concerned that I had inadvertently created a data breach that I sent a text to Eric about it after hours. Even though it was after hours, and Eric had been dealing with a family matter that day, he responded immediately, checked into it, assured me that the system had worked exactly as it was intended to do, and re-set my PW to get me back into the system. Obviously, it is always important to be able to access the system, but it is particularly important right now since we are preparing for a federal audit. Eric saved me time, and even more importantly, gave me peace of mind. I am appreciative and grateful that he is always (always!) so responsive. Thank you.” — Kerry Smith
