Middle schoolers put nursing careers under a microscope

MONTANDON — Selinsgrove Area Middle School students visited the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center to learn about careers in the growing health care field.

During the trip, director Ashlee Bowers and instructor Amy Gaines, R.N., introduced students to anatomy, explained the differences between licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and registered nurses (RNs), and discussed the center’s year-long LPN program, which includes classroom instruction, labs, and clinical experiences. Officials noted the career offers strong job opportunities, with LPNs earning around $50,000 annually.

Students toured the facility and participated in hands-on activities, including using an Anatomage Table and practicing assessment skills with medical manikins. The visit, part of the district’s “smart futures” program, gives students interested in health care a closer look at potential career paths.
