What it takes to be a distance-learning student

The Right Attitude and Commitment

You will be required to:

  • Attend live Zoom classes.
  • Follow the class schedule set with your instructor.
  • Understand the importance of attendance!

Are you ready to:

  • Join each class session, missing only when absolutely necessary?
  • Schedule appointments outside of class days/hours?
  • Be on time?
  • Be present and PARTICIPATE!
  • Ask questions?
  • Take notes?
  • Make up work for any missed class? Ask instructors and follow their instructions.
  • Study outside of class?
  • Stick with it even when things get tough?


Skills and Good Habits

You will need:

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Time-management skills, using your time wisely to get things done.
  • Self-motivation: the drive, desire, and discipline to achieve your goals.
  • Good note-taking and study skills.


Technology

You will need to have:

  • A basic knowledge of technology.

  • The ability to solve tech issues with the devices you are using to join the class.
  • A willingness to learn Zoom and other computer programs used in class.
  • An email account and know how to use it; check it regularly; and send replies and documents.


Your Environment

Answer the following:

  • Do you have a quiet place to participate in a Zoom class without interruptions?
  • Can you find time to study and complete assignments between classes in a quiet place where you can focus?
