Exam to earn diploma available

The state has approved the Educational Testing Service’s paper-based HiSET equivalency exam, and the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU) is making it available in test centers throughout the region.

“The HiSET is an additional exam for adults to attain the CSSD,” says Julie Shumaker, CSIU Adult Education Manager. “Compared to the GED, the HiSET is a more affordable option offered at convenient locations.”

The HiSET is made up of five parts (math, science, social studies, reading and writing) and each is administered for $18 each. The questions are in multiple choice plus one essay format.

Upon successful completion of all sections, a CSSD will be issued. The CSSD is accepted by colleges, employers and the U.S. military, expanding opportunities for examiners pursuing postsecondary education and career goals.

In addition to administering the exam, the CSIU also offers classes to prepare adults to take the HiSET, as well as the traditional GED exam.

HiSET test dates and locations are featured in the Adult Education section of the CSIU website.
