Behind-the-Wheel Instruction

The CSIU offers behind-the-wheel instruction to high school student drivers on a fee-for-service basis. Students may participate until Aug. 31 of the year they graduate high school. They will receive six hours of instruction followed by the licensing test. 

Behind-the-Wheel instruction is available to students, including private school and home-schooled students, residing in the following school districts:

  • Benton Area (meets in Bloomsburg)
  • Berwick Area (meets in Bloomsburg)
  • Central Columbia
  • Columbia-Montour Area Vo-Tech School
  • Danville Area
  • Lewisburg Area
  • Line Mountain
  • Midd-West
  • Mifflinburg Area
  • Millville Area
  • Milton Area
  • Mount Carmel Area
  • Selinsgrove Area
  • Shamokin Area
  • Shikellamy
  • Southern Columbia Area
  • Warrior Run
     

Course Prerequisites

To register for Behind-the-Wheel training with a PA Certified instructor, students must have the following:

  • A valid Pennsylvania learner’s permit;
  • Documentation verifying completion of a theory course (30 hours);
  • Completion of the 65 hours of practice driving as required by the PA Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
     

Registration

  • Complete the Behind-the-Wheel Instruction registration form.  
    Required forms:
    • Include payment if not processed online.
    • A theory course (30 hours) completion certificate or transcript;
    • A valid Pennsylvania learner's permit copy;
    • Behind-the-Wheel Instruction registration form;
       
  • Submit to
    • Send email submissions to Kelli Eichenlaub at keichenlaub@csiu.org
    • Send U.S. mail submissions to Kelli Eichenlaub, Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, 90 Lawton Lane, Milton, PA 17847.
       
  • Complete the payment process here or include the amount when submitting forms by mail.
    • Be sure to review the Notice of Service Fees before making an online payment.
    • Note: Payment for the Behind-the-Wheel Instruction course should only be made after the 30-hour driver-theory course is complete.
